We Day Vancouver

If you were in downtown Vancouver on Friday, you would have likely noticed the thousands of youth pouring into Rogers Arena for the city’s annual We Day celebration.
What is We Day? Founded in 2007 by Canadian brothers Craig and Marc Kielburger, We Day is the movement of our time, empowering a generation of young global citizens through an inspirational event and a year-long educational initiative called We Act, which offers curricular resources, campaigns and materials to help turn the day’s inspiration into sustained activation.
And indeed, how inspiring it was! Clad in colourful We Day-themed t-shirts, students hailing from throughout British Columbia made Rogers Arena a hub of activity as global personalities ranging from Kofi Annan and Martin Luther King III to Avril Lavigne, Hedley and Down With Webster hit the stage to perform and share their personal messages of hope and empowerment with a captivated and enthusiastic audience.

As part of the festivities taking place on the concourse throughout We Day, Whistler Water was there to walk the walk…literally! During our special ‘Water Walk’, we took an opportunity to educate youth about the walk for water taken by women in Kenya each and every day. Sadly, the source they draw from is quite often unclean and a significant distance from where they live, making the walk for water – and life – one of great risk.
That’s where we come in. Coming up on June 14, 2014, Whistler Water will be hosting our second-annual Whistler Water One Climb on the Grouse Grind to raise money for Free the Children’s clean water projects in Kenya. Together, we’ll contribute much-needed funds to these initiatives to help make clean water a reality and allow young girls to go to school rather than embarking on a daily and dangerous water walk. We Day represents our ability to embrace we thinking and we acting while allowing youth to be the agents of social change. Every single day we have the opportunity to make this world a better place. Whistler Water is committed to being part of the change…are you?
