Whistler Longboard Festival

The Whistler Water team was back in their hometown this weekend to cheer on the longboard racers at the Whistler Longboard Festival!
A great atmosphere, sharp corners and lots of exciting pursuits entertained the spectators over the fourth of July long weekend!

We had a chance to meet the youngest and the oldest athletes entering the competition: 11 and 69 years old respectively.
Clearly, age isn’t anything but a number for someone to head downhill at speeds reaching a whopping 70 km/h!

Over 250 athletes from all over the world were competing for the $10,000 cash purse. Friday saw the qualifying heats, allowing 96 competitors to move on to the Saturday’s finals.

In the end Patrick Switzer took first place, last year’s winner, Jimmy Riha finished second Benjamin Dubreuil came in third.
The Womens event was dominated by Elena Corrigall, who managed to win each one of her heats.
Curt Watts won the Juniors and in Street Luge, Mikel Echegaray Diez of Spain stood on the highest step of the podium.
