Get off your butt!

Snowshoeing in early december
I grew up in a family that was amazingly active. We would go skiing in the Alps in the winter, play golf every weekend and my mum would go horseback riding while I was at a judo  competition.  I was always on the move doing something fun and exciting with my siblings and parents.  These childhood memories are cherished and will be stuck in my memory  forever.

In middle school, PE was my favorite class. We would get out of the classroom to go outside and play games like dodgeball, soccer and even shot-put because our school didn’t have the    proper infrastructure. And it was the best! When we went shoe shopping, I would always walk towards the sneakers aisle and my parents would have to drag me back to the rack full of  black boring loafers and other grown-up kicks.

Then I grew up and my interests shifted. I went to university, studied a little bit, partied a little bit more and graduated with a degree in events management. They say that you gain 15  pounds in your first year of university but what they don’t tell you is how difficult it is to get rid of them!

I’ve had my ups and downs when it comes to weight loss including exercising, trying to maintain a goal weight and eating healthy, along with trying out insane diets that involved  cayenne pepper and lemon juice.

I moved to Vancouver in early 2010 and found it to be a wonderful city to live in. The amenities offered are outstanding from the endless hiking trails, the scenic Stanley Park sewall, yoga  classes and community centres where they teach everything from woodworking to Krav Maga. I am in activity heaven!

So, after a few years of moderate to limited activity, I’ve decided to get my butt of the couch and get back into being active again. I’ve started my month by signing up five weeks Pilates class at the Coal Harbour Community Centre.  I’m taking two classes a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and at the same time, I’ve had the pleasure of rediscovering what it means to have abdominal muscles.

Follow my rediscovery of how much fun being active can be and feel free to suggest anything that you’ve tried and loved!
